Pottery Workshops at City-State

  • City-State Public House 705 Edgewood St NE, First Floor Washington, DC 20017 USA (map)

Get your tickets HERE! A chance to unplug, unwind, and make something by hand at our feel-good pottery night, no experience needed. Whether you come for the joy of making, community, or craft beer, this guided clay workshop is all about making something fun while you sip and socialize. You’ll learn the pottery basics, and leave with a one-of-a-kind piece (or two) you built by hand as well as a deeper sense of calm.

Perfect for date night, catching up with friends, or coming solo to meet new people. Just pick the date and theme that fits your vibe in the drop-down menu.

Bonus: We donate $1 from every ticket to mental health initiatives. Learn more hereabout which non-profits we’ve given back to so far, and how you can pick who we support next.

What’s included:

  • Hands-On Instruction: A relaxed, hands-on pottery workshop guided by an experienced host. Workshop length ranges from 1.5 to 2.5 hours depending on the theme — see ‘Theme Details’ section for more info.

  • Pottery 101: Learn foundational hand-building techniques like pinch pots and coils, then turn them into functional pottery with pieces like mugs, bowls, vases, or planters. We’ll also show you how to add fun touches like handles or texture.

  • All Supplies Provided: We bring the clay, tools, and materials — you just bring yourself. You'll make up to 2 pottery pieces during class, plus take home extra clay for more DIY fun.

  • Beginner-Friendly Vibes: Laid-back, no-pressure energy perfect for first-timers, solo guests, and friend groups alike.

  • Feel-Good Energy: Enjoy a welcoming, community-centered experience hosted at unique local spots — from breweries to plant shops and cozy cafés — that make the experience feel extra special.

Note: You can air-dry your pottery and paint it with the included paint. Want it to be waterproof and food-safe? Use our Kiln & Ceramic Studio Locator to find a local pro who can glaze and fire it for you.
